Tata Engineering received the 1999 National Award for R&D Efforts in the Mechanical Engineering Industries sector. This prestigious award, instituted by the Department of Scientific and Industrial Research (DSIR) of the Ministry of Science and Technology, is presented annually in fifteen industrial sectors/areas to the recognized in-house R&D institutions.

Tata Engineering’s application for the award was for design, development and commercialisation of the Indica car and the full air brake system for the Tata 709 LCV.
