The Commercial Vehicles Business Unit (CVBU) of Tata Motors has been declared as the winner of the CII-Exim Bank Award for Business Excellence for the year 2005 at CII's 13 th  Quality Summit, held on November 10, 2005, in Bangalore. The award will be handed over later in a separate function. The CII-Exim Bank Award is presented to the organisation judged to be the best among all award winners, and which is a ' Role Model ' of excellence in management in India.

Prizes are awarded in several categories to organisations that demonstrate excellence in the management of Quality as their fundamental process for continuous improvement. The categories are: 'Strong Commitment to Excellence' (401 - 500), 'Significant Achievement' (501 - 600), and the 'CII-Exim Bank Award' (above 600).

This year CII selected 52 companies for the site visit, based on the assessment of applications, and 32 companies got the commendation for strong commitment to excellence and six companies got the commendation for significant achievement. CII-Exim Bank Award went to Tata Motors-CVBU this year. CVBU is the fifth winner of this award in its history of 11 years.

Mr. A. P. Arya was present on our behalf during the announcement. CVBU congratulates colleagues across the Division on this collective achievement. This has been possible because of the passion, commitment and implementation by each colleague in CVBU, and contribution from ERC, Human Resources, Corporate Affairs & Finance and also other colleagues in the Company. This is equally because of the support from our customers, channel partners, vendors and other associates.

Several illustrious companies, besides CVBU of Tata Motors, participated in the CII assessment 2005. Among them were Bharat Heavy Electricals, Bharat Electronics, Larsen & Toubro, ECC, Philips Software Centre, Tinplate, National Thermal Power Corporation, Jai Bharat Maruti, GAIL, Tata Power, Tata Johnson Control, North Delhi Power Limited, Grasim etc., covering a wide range of industries

Presenting the Award, Mr.S K Kakkar, Principal Counsellor & Head, CII Institute of Quality, said, "Tata Motors-CVBU made enhanced efforts to transform the organisation and the processes, such as New Product Introduction, with greater customer focus resulting in doubling the profit and quadrupling EVA."
