Glimpses of an illustrious history

Our milestones are a reflection of our commitment to this enduring journey.

  • 1954
    Tata Motors rolled out its first diesel truck in partnership with Mercedes Benz.
  • 1961
    The first truck is exported to Sri Lanka (erstwhile Ceylon). A shipment of trucks follows, giving Tata Motors’ export division a filip.
  • 1969
    The Tata Motors-Mercedes Benz tie-up had produced over 175,000 vehicles, i.e., half the trucks and buses plying Indian roads.
  • 1989
    The Tata Hitachi hydraulic excavator (first produced in 1985) is added to the company’s export portfolio – seven of these were exported to Iraq.
  • 1991
    The Tata Sierra, India's first indigenous passenger car, is launched. Four years later, the Sierra would find acclaim in UK and Spain.
  • 2004
    Tata Motors acquires Daewoo Commercial Vehicles in South Korea, which brings in strong capabilities in medium to heavy trucks.
  • 2007
    Acquisition of Jaguar Land Rover in 2007.
  • 2015
    Bolt, Tata Motors all-new sporty hatchback is launched.
  • 2016
    Tata Motors launches Tiago, a new exciting hatchback.
  • 2016
    The Signa range of commercial vehicles makes its appearance.
  • 2017
    Exciting SUVs make their appearance - the Hexa and the Nexon.
  • 2017
    Tata Xenon launches the powerful Yodha range of pickups.
