Busting four myths surrounding our operations in South Africa

Although we are known to be India’s largest automobile manufacturer, our footprint can be found in in over 175 countries around the globe. South Africa is one such market where we have been operational since 2004. Here are some of the myths that we about to bust regarding our services in the country.

  • Myth 1

We only recently started operations in South Africa, where our presence is marginal.

Reality

Several of our automobiles are exported to South Africa from India. In fact, one out of every five of our automobiles sold, are routed from India. Here, we have also managed to sell several cars over the last decade. Ever since commencing operations in South Africa in 2004, we have sold more than 40 thousand Passenger Vehicles (PVs). And out of these, over 30 thousand vehicles are the Indica!

  • Myth 2

Zest, which is among the most-popular car in India, is not launched in South Africa.

Reality

The Zest, which is certainly one the most successful car in India, is also sold in South Africa under the name of Bolt Sedan. Its success can be gauged by the fact that 1200th car has already rolled-off the production line in December 2017.

  • Myth 3

Car penetration in India is more than that in South Africa.

Reality

The number of cars per 1000 people in South Africa is 163, whereas in India we have 20 cars per 1000 people.

  • Myth 4

Rental segment hasn’t evolved much in India. So is the case in South Africa.

Reality

We have sold more than 1000 cars to Tempest Car Hire services South Africa, which is one of the major car rental places catering to local and overseas visitors in the country.
