TATA has won the ‘Best Telematics Product or Launch in the Emerging market’ award for developing the best telematics solution. The system which is based on the Android platform was given by The TU Automotive Detroit conference, which is geared towards innovation in automotive electronics.
The award winning telematics product by TATA was developed for its MAGIC IRIS Electric, a zero emission small commercial passenger vehicle. The IRIS runs on Lithium Ion battery modules, two of which can run the vehicle for 100 kms. They take a total time of eight hours to charge. Apart from this, the Magic IRIS has a solar panel fitted on its roof for supplementary charging.
Some of the key features of TATA’s award winning telematics product are trip planner and navigation (calculates feasibility of a trip depending on charge remaining), duress SMS service, maintenance schedule and break down assistance, alerts on mobile when charging is complete and an intuitive GUI experience.
The Magic IRIS has also previously won the Environment technology of the year 2014, an award which honours excellence in green automotive technology.
