This is the third round of test, since the initiative to select Singur residents and enhance their employability through courses tailored as per their education qualifications began in December 2006. All the candidates had earlier registered with the WBIDC.
The batch of 204 candidates included those Singur inmates who had earlier been placed by the WBIDC at the Ramakrishna Mission Shilpa Mandir (Belur) for exposure to different industrial skills, and those candidates who did not qualify in the tests held for Industrial Training Institute (ITI)-trained candidates on December 25, 2006, and February 10, 2007.
Meanwhile, the 15 ITI-trained individuals, selected in the two earlier rounds of tests and interviews for 6-month training at Tata Motors Jamshedpur facility, will leave for the plant on February 28. Their training will commence from March 1. On successful completion of the training programme, they will be eligible for employment in the Small Car project in Singur.
