Tata Motors September sales at 52,513 nos., growth of 6% Press kit

Tata Motors’ total sales (including exports) of Tata commercial and passenger vehicles in September 2009 were 52,513 vehicles, a growth of 6% over 49,647 vehicles sold in September 2008. The company’s domestic sales of Tata commercial and passenger vehicles for September 2009 were 49,650 nos., a 10% growth over 45,234 nos. sold in September last year.

Cumulative sales (including exports) for the company for the fiscal at 273,491 nos., recorded a growth of 3% over 265,709 nos. sold last year.

Commercial Vehicles
The company’s sales of commercial vehicles in September 2009 in the domestic market were 31,474 nos., a 10% growth compared to 28,648 vehicles sold in September last year. LCV sales were 18,454 nos., a growth of 16% over September last year. M&HCV sales stood at 13,020 nos., a growth of 2% over September last year. This is the third consecutive month of growth for M&HCV.

Cumulative sales of commercial vehicles in the domestic market for the fiscal were 161,700 nos., a growth of 11% over last year. Cumulative LCV sales were 100,278 nos., a growth of 30% over last year, while M&HCV sales stood at 61,422 nos., lower by 11% over last year.

Passenger Vehicles
The passenger vehicles business reported a total sale and distribution offtake of 20,743 nos. (18,176 Tata + 2,567 Fiat) in the domestic market in September 2009, a 23% increase compared to 16,829 nos. (16,586 Tata + 243 Fiat) in September last year. Sales of Tata cars, at 15,802 nos., grew by 19% over September 2008. The sales of the Tata Nano were 2,524 nos. The Indica range sales were 9,858 nos., a growth of 15% over September last year. The Indigo range recorded sales of 3,420 nos., lower by 27% over September last year. The Sumo/Safari range accounted for sales of 2,374 nos., lower by 28.5% over September last year.

The Land Rover Freelander 2 was launched during the month, augmenting the Land Rover range in India.

Cumulative sales and distribution offtake of passenger vehicles in the domestic market for the fiscal were 111,461 nos. (98,568 Tata + 12,893 Fiat), against 100,336 nos. (97,929 Tata + 2,407 Fiat) last year, a growth of 11%. Cumulative sales of the Nano were 7,500 nos. Cumulative sales of the Indica range at 56,868 nos., reported a growth of 15%. Cumulative sales of the Indigo family were 18,498 nos., lower by 31%. Cumulative sales of the Sumo/Safari range were 15,702 nos., lower by 27.5%.

Exports
The company’s sales from exports at 2,863 vehicles in September 2009 were lower by 35% compared to 4,413 vehicles in September last year. The cumulative sales from exports for the fiscal at 13,223 nos. were lower by 40% over 22,040 nos. in the same period last year.
