Total vehicle sales at 44,357 nos., up 45%, Exports up 33% Press kit

Tata Motors reported a total sale of 44,357 vehicles (including exports) for the month of May 2006, a growth of 45% over 30,593 vehicles sold in May last year. Cumulative sales for the Company at 80,931 nos. are growing by 49%.

Commercial Vehicles

The Company’s sales of commercial vehicles in May 2006 in the domestic market were 21,903 nos., an increase of 64% over 13,338 vehicles sold in the same period last year. M&HCV sales stood at 12,682 nos, a growth of 55% over May 2005, while LCV sales were 9,221 nos., a growth of 79% over May 2005.

Cumulative sales of commercial vehicles in the domestic market for the fiscal were 41,577 nos., an increase of 92% over last year. Cumulative M&HCV sales stood at 24,799 nos., an increase of 85% over last year while LCV sales for the fiscal were 16,778 nos., an increase of 103% over last year.

The growth in May 2006 is on a low base of May 2005, which was due to unanticipated difficulties in certification and procurement of some critical parts.

Passenger Vehicles

The passenger vehicle business reported a total sale of 18,115 vehicles in the domestic market in May 2006, an increase of 29% over May 2005. The Indica sold 12,409 nos., a growth of 46.3% over May 2005. The Indigo family registered sales of 2,844 nos., a decline of 6.2% over May 2005. The Sumo and Safari accounted for sales of 2,862 nos., a growth of 15% over May 2005.

Cumulative sales of passenger vehicles in the domestic market for the fiscal were 31,443 nos., an increase of 18% over the same period last year. Cumulative sales of Indica at 20,902 nos. registered a growth of 28.2% over last year while cumulative sales of Indigo at 5,431 nos. registered a decline of 8.1% over last year. Cumulative sales of Sumo and Safari were 5,110 nos., a growth of 13% over the same period last year.

Exports

The Company’s sales from exports were 4,339 vehicles in May 2006 as compared to 3,251 vehicles in May 2005, an increase of 33%. The cumulative sales from exports in the current period at 7,911 nos. have recorded a 31% growth over the corresponding figures for the previous period.
